In Charleston, SC the 50th Pi Kapp College was held.  There Theta Alpha Chapter was named the 2009 Fogarty Award winner.  The Fogarty award is given to the chapter who ranks number one in the catagory of chapters who have 8- 15 IFC recognized chapters.  The award recognizes ten years and over 250 initiates' hard work and dedication to the chapter.  There to accept the award on behalf of Theta Alpha were the three active brothers who were attending Pi Kapp College: Jerry Ursin (Archon) Mark Hamrick (Chaplin), and Marks McWhorter (Standards Boards Chair).  Also, who accepted the award was Brandon Belote, Bradley Charlesworth, and Vince Fabra who work for the national fraternity and Gary Kimble and Toby Barker who were attending Pi Kapp College as our chapter advisors.  The Fogarty award is a great achivement for the chapter and signs of great things to come.   

The summer of 2009 is quickly approaching and with the summer comes the Journey of Hope and Build America.  The Journey of Hope is a bike ride from the Pacific Coast to Washington DC and along the way raise awareness and volunteer for Americans with disabilities.  To ride in the Journey of Hope each rider must raise $5,000 by doing different fundraising events.  Since our chartering nearly ten years ago, Theta Alpha has had many riders in the Journey of Hope, and we are excited to say that we will add three brothers to that list.  Taylor Goodie (Pi Class), Jonathan Robinson (Rho Class), and Ben Jones (Rho Class) have been training and raising their money for PUSH America so they can ride in this great event.  Also newly initiated, Eddie Tarkany (Sigma Class) is preparing himself and raising money as well to participate in Build America.  Build America goes to diffrent camps for Americans with disabilities and spend a week participating with the campers but most importantly building decks, playgrounds, etc. for the camp to use.  If you are interested in donating to their causes please feel free to contact them. Jonahan Robinson (601-297-3650)  - Taylor Goodie (251-656-7918) - Ben Jones (225-975-1388) - Eddie Tarkany (251-623-4481).
